Team JMS Favorites…
We are introducing a new feature where we share products we love at Team JMS. Some may be from our sponsors, some are not!
This week’s product is from one of our sponsors and was chosen by Becky Huestis Wagner. She chose the Tri Factor Grip Knee Patch Breeches by Ariat. Becky describes them as her go to breeches for riding multiple horses per day. “These breeches are comfortable, whether wearing them in summer or winter and they hold up. They still look practically new, even after riding multiple horses per day for months on end.”
You can check out the breeches in action on nearly every Madden Method video Becky is in on our YouTube channel!
Q & A with Beezie…
“Having moved to a new property we have lots of space to build a new outdoor jumping arena therefore wondering what is your recommendation re size, footing etc? We’re lucky that we have many areas where we can ride out on tracks away from the arena as well.
Thank you for your time and consideration in anticipation to some guidance and advice! Regards, Lyn (Australia)”
Hi Lyn,
Thanks for your question! This is a hard one to give a concise answer to, but I will do my best. First and most important, I would tell you to get good local expert advice. There is no one size fits all answer to this question, as you need to factor in your exact site specifics, as well as drainage, weather, number of horses in the ring at a time, etc.
You want a good proportion length to width and ideally at least 200’ L x 125’ W, to give a reasonable approach to lines and end jumps. Realistically, you want it as big as you can with your budget and site constraints. That being said, it is better to go a little smaller and have better footing, than have a larger space with poor drainage or footing.
We have footing from Footing First in our arenas, which we are very pleased with, but I have no knowledge of local options in Australia who might make similar products, or if there would be environmental reasons to use something different in your location.
Don’t take this project lightly and risk having to redo it. This is a project that you should take the time to do right the first time.
