While we’re home…
We’re getting extra time to work with the horses in our Young Horse Development program.
Here is a brand-new Madden Method video we put together last week to show what our five and six year olds were working on in preparation for Princeton this week.
Beezie Teaches Young Horse Lesson - The sound quality is a little in and out for this video, but there are good gems from John and Beezie, so we hope you still find value in it!

Q & A with Beezie…
“Hi team,
I am interested in knowing how you travel your horses for long trips. Do you feed hay whilst they are on the truck? What about water? How often do you get them off for a stretch of their legs? Do you have a maximum number of hours in the truck before they get off? Thanks! -Jo”
Hi Jo,
Great questions! Our horses are shipped free (untied) in box stalls for long trips. We bed the stalls, they are given hay, and water buckets. It is a very comfortable ride in our tractor trailer for them. We have a very experienced driver named Rick Swope, and for long trips, we hire a second driver, unless I happen to be available to drive with Rick. Having two drivers means they are able to switch off and sleep while the other drives, as we have a sleeper cab. They drive straight through to Calgary, which is the longest trip we do at around 45 hours. We do stop and check the horses, give carrots, feed more hay and water as needed, pull blankets as temperatures change, etc., but we do not unload the horses unless there is an emergency.
